    Important contribution of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women to take women's hockey up - Dr. Navjot

  • Jalandhar ( ) Punjab women's hockey has been an important contribution in Indian hockey. But for a long time, the level of women's hockey in Punjab had been declining. Keeping this in front, the management committee of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women has taken important steps for the development of women's hockey, the meaningful results of which have started to emerge. Olympian GurjitKaur, the player of Punjab in the Indian hockey team, has earned her and the Punjabis due to her sport. This player was a student of Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women. Expressing these views, Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women Principal Dr. Navjot (who is also the Vice President of Hockey Punjab) said that Hockey Punjab has given this college the status of a leading women's hockey center. After Olympian GurjitKaur, NavneetKaur and NehaKumari have also participated in the coaching camp of the Indian hockey team. SharanjitKaur, a hockey player of KCL Collegiate School located within the college, joined the coaching camp of the Under-17 Indian hockey team and clarified her intentions that the coaching and other facilities provided at this college are better than any other hockey center. Sports Achievements of the College Hockey Center Sharing more information about the sports achievements of the college, Dr. Navjot said that the college team has raised the name of the college by recording consecutive victories in inter-college hockey competitions. Five hockey players of the college have made their place in the hockey team of Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar, won a bronze medal in the North Zone Inter-University Competition and are currently preparing for the All India Inter-University Competition to be held at Pune. Five players from KCL School have won gold medals representing Punjab schools in the 67th National School Games. Earlier, the hockey team of KCL School won the silver medal in the Punjab School Games representing the district Jalandhar. One player from the college and four players from KCL School are participating in the 6th Khelo India Youth Games being held in Chennai. The college players have been shining the name of the institution by participating in the national hockey championships continuously. The college team has won the gold medal twice consecutively in the games organized by the Punjab government. College Management Committee's attachment to sports He said that the hockey team of KCL Collegiate School is a part of the Punjab Hockey Academy run by the Round Glass Foundation, this team is provided food, sports kit and other equipment by the Round Glass that the college management committee is responsible for the education and training of these players. Hostel facilities are provided free of cost. While all the expenses of the college team for food, hostel, studies and other facilities are being done by the college management committee, which is very important. He said that the president of the college management committee, BibiBalbirKaur, is constantly eager to provide all kinds of facilities to the players, due to which women's hockey is constantly going to greater heights, all the credit goes to the management committee. He said that while various educational institutions are indifferent towards sports, but the Khalsa College Management Committee spends a lot of budget on education as well as sports, which is commendable. Olympian Varinder Singh (member of the 1975 World Cup winning Indian hockey team) has been coaching the players in this hockey center who passed away last year 2022, besides Kulbir Singh Saini and ParminderKaur have coached in this center. is going and from time to time Olympian Rajinder Singh Sr. (Technical Head of Round Glass), Olympian Harbinder Singh is also teaching hockey tricks to the players.
